The Extra Life Foundation is a charity dedicated to raising money and awareness for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Every year, they partner with video game companies on events that encourage gamers across all platforms to raise funds from November 27th through December 3rd. If you’re new to this event or think your company might be interested in supporting it next year, follow these steps!

The “lotro extra life 2021” is a way to support the Extra Life charity. The campaign will run from November 1st, 2020 until December 31st, 2020.

If you seen Michael Jackson’s recent Massively Uplifting, you may have noticed that Extra Life is becoming more popular in the game business, especially among MMORPG producers. Indeed, the big fundraising drive gets off this weekend, with the goal of adding to the $87 million donated for sick children between 2008 and 2020. Here’s a short look at some of the teams hosting gaming streams this weekend in support of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals – and how you can assist, either by giving or by joining the team and helping them broadcast on Friday.

ArenaNet, the studio behind Guild Wars 2, is trying to raise $80,000 this year to increase its total to $500,000; the firm has announced that if it earns at least $25,000, it would double the amount to bring it to $50,000. It’s set up with a super-team, so you can bring yours along.

This year, a number of Daybreak substudios are participating, with each team putting in $5,000 and wanting to raise an extra $15,000 for a total of $60,000. Darkpaw Games, the creators of EverQuest and EverQuest II, and PlanetSide 2 substudio Rogue Planet Games are both streaming for Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, while Dimensional Ink, the creators of DC Universe Online, has pledged to support Dell Children’s Ascension in Austin, with plenty of prizes in store. In fact, PlanetSide 2 gamers have already surpassed that goal, so we anticipate Daybreak to easily meet its objectives.

Standing Stone Games, the company behind LOTRO and Dungeons and Dragons Online, is also hoping to raise $20,000 for the Boston Children’s Hospital, with a donation of $5000 to begin things off. (In fact, it seems like they’ve already raised $15,000 before the event, which is incredible.) SSG is giving out prizes to individuals that give, so if you play LOTRO or DDO, look into how you may get one.

This year, KingsIsle Entertainment, the firm behind Pirate101 and Wizard101, is back in the mix, donating $10,000 for Austin Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas. Is it true that I said $10,000? So far, they’ve collected around $15,000, and the more people that donate, the more prizes they’ll get in the games, so there’s something for everyone.

We spotted a couple more studios and ensembles in the mix that aren’t so well-known:

  • Proletariat, the studio behind Spellbreak, has raised more than half of its $20,000 goal.
  • Studio Wildcard of Ark Survival Evolved has set a $50,000 target for themselves.
  • The team from Ubsioft Quebec is hoping to fund $10,000.
  • Kabam is also attempting to raise $10,000.
  • Gaiscioch, a well-known MMO guild, has already raised half of its $5,000 target (it’s been a participant since 2011!).

Finally, but maybe most intriguingly, it seems that a prominent rogue server has been given permission to advertise the charity. We’re talking about City of Heroes: Homecoming, which announced this week that Issue 27: Page 3 would be released to the test server on Friday, with the goal of giving City of Heroes streamers something new to do while also supporting the Extra Life cause. “We’re pleased to be able to give a chance for everyone to help this fantastic cause while discovering the new stuff in Page 3,” the player team writes, “and we’re looking forward to listening into your broadcasts and giving some developer feedback along the way.” Dr. Aeon’s level 35-50 attack force, Chasing Fool’s Gold, is included in the patch.

“Dr. Aeon, the supervillain genius, has started to observe unusual unscientific activities inside Aeon City!” Such a thing is unthinkable! No one is allowed to sully the splendor of his paradise! He’s decided to seek the services of local criminals to help him maintain and enforce order, thanks to his unrivaled genius! Certainly not to absolve oneself of any prospective responsibilities or obligations! Never! Even his perfect intellect, however, couldn’t foretell how this story would end. Decades of preparation have resulted in the emergence of an unanticipated danger, one that Dr. Aeon had a significant role in creating in more ways than one!”

The move is especially noteworthy because the Homecoming server has been negotiating with original studio NCsoft since 2019 in an attempt to secure legitimacy in the wake of the game’s sunset and community code leak, and this turn of events, combined with the resumption of streaming earlier this year, certainly makes those negotiations look productive indeed. Not all heroes, as the saying goes, wear capes. (Many thanks to Yrys!)

Let everyone know if you’re participating in this year’s Extra Life or if you want to promote your team or a studio we overlooked in the comments! Best of luck to everyone who is streaming!
